Mountrail County, ND Shortly after upgrading the Mountrail County 9-1-1 Center in February of 2007 with the latest version of BullBerry Systems R3Gold Dispatch software, the product was given a crucial test.
The Mountrail Sheriff’s department responded to a 9-1-1 Phase II call from ice fishermen fishing on a local lake. A vehicle was stranded on the lake and the fishermen made the call from their vehicle. The weather was very extreme at that point with large amounts of wind and snow.
As a result of having very precise 9-1-1 GIS data and the proper software tools, the Mountrail dispatch personnel were able to effectively find and save the fishermen.
The various mapping images included with the mapping software enabled them to find a prairie road to put the responder at the closest point to finding the stranded fishermen. Having the routing included with the dispatch software, they were able to provide a precise route to the actual incident, and using the measure tool, they were capable of determining what length of rope and how far the stranded fishermen were from a point where the responder could bring them in.
Without the map, the dispatch personnel would not have been able to access exactly where the incident was, they would not have been able to instantly route the responders, they would not have known how far away from the road the incident occurred and they would not have been able to equip themselves with the proper information to make the rescue. If the various tools of the Mapping Software would not have been used properly, the time to rescue would have been hours longer and the possibility of a loss of life was very real.
